Someone once said, "You can have your own opinions but you can't have your own facts."

What do you think?

To help you pause and reflect on this as we prepare for our next series on CHUNKY TRUTHS, here's a collection of things the Bible says about TRUTH...

Jesus claimed to be THE TRUTH...

John 14:16
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

And that knowing the truth has the power to free people...

John 8:32
[Jesus said] "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Jesus said the Holy Spirit would guide his followers into the truth...

John 16:13
[Jesus said], "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth..."

He prayed for his followers to be cleansed by the truth of God's words...

John 17:17
"Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth."

The Bible urges Christians to know and use the truth of the Bible well (rather than misusing it as many do)...

2 Timothy 2:15
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

Jesus said the only way to worship God is in spirit and truth...

John 4:24
God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

This means inventing gods doesn't make them real.  There is truth about God to be known and responded to...

Psalm 145:18
The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

God always tells the truth and is himself the measure of all truth...
Psalm 119:160
The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.

If God is God at all then he is far above and beyond us in every way and has knowledge way beyond what we could ever attain.  When he speaks, he is right.  Always.  This means if we disagree with God, we're wrong.  Every time.  We won't change anything by arguing.  It's us that need to change.

Some humility!

Let's not be so sure we're right about God.  Let's pursue humility and keep an open mind.

Let's not avoid conversations about God either.  Let's pursue truth and disagree without falling out.

Give me a shout if you'd like to grab a coffee and chat more. :)

And think about who you could invite and bring along on Sun 5th May! :)
