3 BIG words: GLORIFICATION

What would be the ABSOLUTE BEST thing you can imagine could happen to you and the whole world?  Stop reading this and REALLY THINK ABOUT IT for a minute...

God has something even better planned.  If you want to trust him!

Over the last 3 weeks we've picked up 3 BIG words to describe how the Bible says Jesus saves people past, present and future.  Knowing what these 3 big words mean will really help you when reading what the Bible says about what Jesus wants to do for people as they trust and follow him...

1. Christians can say, "Jesus has saved me from the punishment of sin."  This is called JUSTIFICATION.  When someone turns from their sin and trusts Jesus, Jesus not only FORGIVES them but makes it as if they never sinned in the first place!  "It's JUST-IF-I never sinned."  That's what the word means...

Romans 3:21-26
But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood – to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished 26  – he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

2. Christians can also say, "Jesus is saving me from the practice of sin."  This is called SANCTIFICATION. A Christian is justified the moment they put their trust in Jesus, but sanctification is then a lifelong process of transformation to become the people we were made to be and to experience true freedom as we follow the best God has planned for us, avoiding the selfish decisions that were stealing, killing and destroying us previously. Sanctification is about becoming more and more like Jesus by the power of God the Holy Spirit, who lives in every Christian.

2 Corinthians 3:18
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

3. And Christians can say, "Jesus will save me from the presence of sin."  This is called GLORIFICATION.  Christians have the promise from God that he will one day complete the sanctification process and welcome them to live with him forever in a fully restored world without any more sin, sickness, suffering or death - The kind of place we wish this was - and it one day will be!!

Romans 8:30
And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

1 John 3:2
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Revelation 21:1-5
Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth,’ for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling-place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death” or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’

I don't know what the best thing you're hoping for is.  But I know that God's best for you is way beyond what you're imagining, and way beyond the brokenness this world is subject to right now...

Romans 8:18-21
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

1 Corinthians 2:6-10
We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written:
‘What no eye has seen,
    what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived’ –
the things God has prepared for those who love him –

10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.

When Jesus saves, it's better than anything anyone can imagine or ever invent to believe instead.  It's all God's GRACE and not anything we could ever earn for ourselves.  No-one has ever come up with anything like it.  It's one of the many reasons I think it must be true.  It can only have come from the mind of God himself.
